Affirmative Way

Subject + was / were + going to + verb in infinitive + complement

Examples:

I was going to invite you but I didn’t know your address.

Iba invitarte pero no se tu dirección.

He was going to call her but he forgot it

El Iba a llamarte pero lo olvido

Mary was going to travel overseas but she lost her Passport.

Mari iba viajar al extranjero pero ella perdió su pasaporte

He was going to play tomorrow before he broke his leg

El Iba  a jugar mañana antes que se fracturara la pierna

They were going to marry this weekend in the afternoon.

Ellos iban a casarse este fin de semana en la tarde

Negative Way

Subject + wasn’t / weren’t + going to + verb in infinitive + complement

Examples:

They weren’t going to go with us to the trip, I don’t know who told you that

Ellos no iban a ir con nosotros al viaje, no sé quién te dijo eso

Mike wasn’t going to participate in the competition because he said he couldn’t.

Miguel no iba ir  a participar en la competencia porque él dijo que no podría.

You weren’t going to help them and you are doing it now.

Tu no ibas a ayudar a ellos y lo estas hacienda ahora.

Bryan wasn’t going to visit his grandparents and he’s there.

Bryan no iba a visitar a sus abuelos y el está ahí.

It wasn’t going to forgive you but she change her mind

No iba a perdónalo pero ella cambio su opinión

  

Interrogative Way

Was / were + subject + going to + verb in infinitive + complement + ?

Examples:

A: Were you going to go with us to the party?

¿Ibas tú a ir con nosotros a la fiesta?

B: Yes, I was. /No, I wasn’t

Si, iba a ir / No, iba  ir

A: What were you going to do last weekend?

¿Que ibas tu hacer el pasado fin de semana?

B: I was going to go to the downtown but it was already late.

Iba ir al centro de la ciudad pero era tarde

A: where were you going to study the university?

¿Donde ibas tú a estudiar la universidad?

B: I was going to study it in Mexico City.

Iba estudiarla en la ciudad de México

A: where were they going to live in that city?

¿Dónde iban ellos a vivir en la ciudad?

B: they were going to live with their aunt.

Ellos  iban a vivir con su tía.
