There are in English two different compound question
that we use to ask a question about countable and uncountable nouns depending
on the case that we are referring to, they are how much and how many which are
going to be used as it follows:
How much= Cuanto, cuanta (uncountable)
How many=Cuantos,Cuantas (Countable nouns)
How much… is there?
How many… are there?
As we can see when we have to use how Much, then we
will have to apply the way “is there” due to the
fact that we are referring to an uncountable noun: but when we are structuring
how Many we will use “are there” due to it is a
countable noun.
Examples

How much was your watch?
How much money do you have?
How much milk is there in the fridge?
How much water do you need for it?
How many states are there in our country?
How many brothers and sisters do you have?
